Confrontation & Analysis

Dialogues and Criticism

1. Relationship with Historiography

This text dialogues with the New History and with the philosophy of Michel Foucault (genealogy). The idea that origin is a construction of the present to legitimize the past is central to modern historical criticism. OCE applies this to cosmology itself.

"We don't say 'it started there' because that's where it started, but because that's where our narrative can begin to operate."

Pontos Robustos

  • Total demystification of the "truth" of origin.
  • Strong connection between ontology (what it is) and epistemology (how we know it).
  • Explanation of the political and psychological function of origin myths.

Reception Weaknesses

It may seem that the text denies the reality of the past (saying that it is all "construction"). It is important to clarify that the past existed, but its forma narrativa is built.

2. Dialogue with Psychoanalysis

The thesis of "retroactive origin" is purely Freudian (the concept of Nachträglichkeit or "deferred action"). A trauma only becomes a trauma when it is remembered and given new meaning later. The universe works the same way: the Big Bang is only "origin" because we are here to say so.

Three Proposed Ruptures

  • Contra o Fundamentalismo: There are no pure truths at the origin to which we must "return."
  • Against Nostalgia for Paradise: The beginning was not perfect; it was just confusing. Order is an achievement, not an inheritance.
  • Contra a Linearidade: Time is not a straight line from past to future; it is a bond where the future rewrites the past.
