Dialogues and Criticism
1. Relationship with Science
The text resonates strongly with the Non-Equilibrium Thermodynamics (Prigogine) e a Systems Biology (Varela/Maturana). The idea that order is "maintenance of a state unlikely" is purely thermodynamic. Life is a fight against entropy, and this text generalizes this fight to the entire cosmos.
"Order is not a beginning - it is a consequence. Supposing that the universe had a beginning ordered is to project onto matter a nostalgia for thought."
2. Philosophical Dialogue
This text is a direct attack on Platonismo (the world of eternal Ideas) and to the Criacionismo. If order is effect, then there was no Intelligent Design. The intelligence (order) is a late product of evolution, not its cause.
Three Proposed Ruptures
- Contra a Eternidade: Nothing is eternal. Everything that exists, exists in time and at time.
- Against the Essence: Things do not have a fixed "essence"; have a way of operation. If they change their functioning, they change their nature.
- Contra a Estabilidade Garantida: Civilization, life, the planet - everything is precarious. This awareness establishes an ethics of care (because nothing is guaranteed).
